RELATIVE calm has descended upon the Niger Delta as it emerged that a provisional 30-day ceasefire had been arranged with a militant faction influential within the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), despite militant protestations downplaying contact and insisting that that no truce had been agreed.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu is understood to have reached an accord via militant representatives and host community leaders, convening in the temporary site earmarked for the proposed Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State.
