Last year, Enel tried to put the contract on ice seeking an out of court settlement but after lengthy talks decided to press ahead with the deal, according to industry sources. A spokesperson for the state-controlled electricity firm denied a newspaper report that the long-running problem was jeopardising Enel's planned privatisation and could also damage Italy's bid to join the single European currency.
Nigerian LNG contract goes to arbitration
THE NIGERIAN LNG consortium has called in arbitrators to rule on a contentious gas contract involving Italian electricity utility Enel, the company said.
