Abdul-Mahdy al-Ameedi, deputy director of Iraq’s Petroleum Licensing Directorate, said further talks will be held on
1 November with Nippon to finalise the deal.
A Nippon-led group was chosen over Italy’s Eni and Spain’s Repsol YPF for an engineering, procurement and construction contract to increase output from Nassiriyah, which has estimated reserves of about 4.4 billion barrels.
“The ministry evaluated the proposals from Eni, Repsol YPF and Nippon.
