State-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said late last week that its Kolmani River-2 appraisal well in the country’s north-east has hit hydrocarbons, writes Iain Esau.
The probe started drilling in February and was designed to appraise the 33-billion cubic foot Kolmani River-1 gas discovery in the Upper Benue trough that forms part of the Gongola basin.
According to NNPC, the probe was drilled by Ikenga Rig 101 to 13,701 feet (4176 metres) — deeper than Shell's original discovery well — and found oil, liquids and gas in several horizons.
