There were no deaths or serious accidents reported last year to the Australian government’s safety and environmental regulator for the offshore oil and gas industry for the first time since it was established in 2005.
In the same period there was, however, a 28% increase in the total number of hydrocarbon releases, which came against the background of a 38% drop in the total number of offshore hours worked.
