The Mexican state oil company designated the well as a “producer” in recent documents related to its deep-water activities.
The well is located some 224 kilometres off Tamaulipas state, about seven kilometres north-west of the Maximino-1 discovery and 32 kilometres from the US border. Water depth was just beyond 3000 metres.
The Nobilis probe was targeting two lower Eocene Wilcox objectives in pursuit of extra-light oil, with a targeted total depth of 5980 metres.
