The Gazprom-owned Nord Stream 2 operator has obtained more construction permits, underpinning plans to start laying a subsea gas export pipeline from Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea before the end of this year, writes Vladimir Afanasiev.

The first permit, issued by Sweden’s Ministry of Enterprise & Innovation, allows Nord Stream 2 to build and operate a 510-kilometre section of the pipeline in the country’s exclusive economic zone.
