US drillers shed eight rigs overall this week with North Dakota taking the biggest losses, according to the latest weekly tally from oilfield services firm Baker Hughes, writes Caroline Evans.

Operators in North Dakota, which hosts the oily Bakken shale, dropped eight rigs for a total of 47. There were 57 units working in the state last year.

The drop in the Bakken was concentrated in the core counties of McKenzie and Mountrail, which shed four rigs each for respective totals of 19 and nine, according to Baker Hughes.
