The Norwegian government is ordering fresh studies into the potential of converting existing offshore oil and gas installations from gas-fired power to power-from-shore as it looks to further reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the nation’s upstream sector.

The oil and gas industry was responsible for 14.5 million tonnes of Norway’s total CO2 emissions of 52.9 million tonnes during 2018.

And the Norway government, despite being part of the European Union's Emissions Trading System (ETS), wants to see more emission cuts than market signals are so far providing.
