US energy services player National Oilwell Varco (NOV) is getting ready for large-scale testing of a new subsea oil storage system that could replace floating storage vessels in future offshore developments.
The subsea solution is primarily aimed at holding oil or condensate on the seafloor before offloading onto shuttle tankers, but may also be used for chemicals and produced water, according to NOV, which is currently in the final stages of assessing the components of the new technology.
