Provincial Energy Minister Andrew Younger said the volume of concern from the public was enough to warrant an indefinite ban on the technology and to introduce legislation this October prohibiting slick water fracking from all shale projects.
The government will “not allow a process that most Nova Scotians are clearly not yet comfortable with,” Younger said.
However, federal Finance Minister Joe Oliver — former federal minister of natural resources — believes the ban will be a lost opportunity for the Maritimes, with Western Canadian provinces enjoying significant economic gains.
