Russia's largest independent gas producer Novatek has accelerated a plan to restart exploration of the onshore Gydansky block that was halted in the Soviet era, when the area was deemed too remote for commercial development, writes Vladimir Afanasiev.
According to a tender disclosure notice, posted by Novatek’s wholly owned subsidiary Arctic LNG 1, the company is gearing up to conduct a workover of the old Soviet exploration well 132 between May and August this year.
