Statoil’s Peregrino production director Johan Mikkelsen said the technology — designed to delay and reduce the impact of water breakthrough in long horizontal wells — could be introduced on about 10 production wells in the Campos basin heavy oil field, if it is successful.

The devices could add about 20 million barrels to Peregrino’s recoverable reserves tally, he said.

They are among a number of advanced technologies Statoil plans to use at Peregrino to boost recovery of its 14-degree API crude.
