Equatorial Guinea Petroleum Minister Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima has given Ophir Energy until the end of 2018 to sanction its Fortuna floating liquefied natural gas project, or else he will consider “alternatives” to monetise the 2.5 trillion cubic feet of gas in Block R.

London-listed Ophir has had major problems securing $1.2 billion of funding to underpin a final investment decision on the project, which was originally set to take place in mid-2016.
