The discovery sits in 100 metres of water in Block WA-407-P. It was drilled in 1995 by Mobil and hit a gross gas column of 146 metres, confirming the presence of “a large dry gas accumulation”, said Octanex, which owns 100% of the permit.
Octanex said it has declared a location over Ascalon and the nearby Saratoga-1 discovery.
The resource sits within close proximity of the gas pipeline which feeds the Ichthys liquefied natural gas plant.
