McDermott International still sees promise in traditional offshore projects, especially in Mexico as new private operators look to start developing discoveries, writes Kathrine Schmidt.

The US contractor expects to submit bids in the next quarter or so, as operators such as Pan American Energy and Fieldwood plan to develop finds made in acreage awarded in Mexico's Round 1.2.

“We see these opportunities in Mexico as really starting to ramp up, and we think we’re well-positioned because of our engineering capability in Mexico City and the fact we have (the facility at) Altamira,” McDermott chief executive David Dickson said.
