The ethnic Somali-dominated Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) claimed to have ambushed a convoy on 2 July, killing 43 soldiers at Aleen near Shilaabo, and to have captured quantities of fuel and weapons.
Two months ago, seven Chinese workers were captured and later released by the ONLF following an attack near Jijiga on a drilling facility operated by Sinopec subsidiary Zhongyuan Petrol-eum Exploration Bureau (ZPEB), working for Hong Kong-based operator Southwest Energy.
