The speculation follows the $15.5 million settlement announced by a New York District Court earlier this month between Shell and the families of the executed Ogoni leader Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other activists in 1995.
The landmark settlement involved a pact with London-based Energy Equity Resources (EER) in which EER agreed to contribute $4.5 million to the overall figure via a previous contractual arrangement with the supermajor.
