Marcel van Poecke’s appetite for investing in the oil and gas sector is as strong as ever.

It is now five years since Van Poecke was hired by Carlyle Group to head Carlyle International Energy Partners (CIEP), the US-based private equity company’s $2.5 billion overseas energy investment fund.

And a new appointment is beckoning for the Netherlands-born entrepreneur.

Later this year van Poecke is set become chairman of Carlyle’s global energy, natural resources and infrastructure division, overseeing $25 billion of assets under management and 107 active portfolio companies, as well as overseeing CIEP.
