Private player Rathlin Energy’s West Newton gas project in northern England could potentially also hold significant volumes of oil, according to the project partner Reabold Resources.

Reabold, which holds a 36% interest in operator Rathlin, had previously described the discovery as potentially the UK’s largest onshore gas field following drilling of the West Newton-2A appraisal well.

The probe in PEDL 183 was drilled to a depth of 2061 metres and intersected both gas and liquids.
