NDP leader Jack Layton kicked off his first week of campaigning with a fly-over of the oil sands in Northern Alberta.
He later said the mining activities and tailings ponds of the oil sands were toxic and promoted his party's plans to place a moratorium on new developments.
He ended last week at a rally in Toronto, saying Conservative Party leader Stephen Harper was more concerned with big oil than the Canadian public.
