Romania's OMV Petrom is looking to expand its reach beyond the borders of the Eastern European nation, aiming to develop new assets or acquire already-producing projects in the Mediterranean and Caspian regions.

Petrom, the biggest oil and gas company in Romania, is planning to become an international player just like its Austrian parent group OMV, the latter's head of upstream Johann Pleininger, told Upstream.

The Romanian player is 51% owned by OMV, while the Romanian state controls 20.6% and Fondul Proprietatea holds 12.5%,
