Peter O'Neill has been re-elected as the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea following national elections, but the incumbent minister of petroleum & energy lost his seat.

O'Neill's People's National Congress (PNC) party emerged with the most MPs following the lengthy election, and O'Neill was duly nominated on 2 August to begin a second five-year term as prime minister.

Former energy minister Nixon Duban, from the PNC, lost the Madang Open seat to Bryan Krammer.
