India's Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) has approved the commerciality of the technically challenging UD-1 ultra-deepwater natural gas discovery operated by state-controlled Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) off the country's east coast.

Sources close to the development said upstream regulator DGH, as a partner in the block management commitee with ONGC, finally gave a green light to ONGC’s declaration of commerciality (DoC) proposal after evaluating the document for more than a year.
