In a letter filed with the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Agency in April, recently made public, the Texas-based giant and its Canadian affiliate, Imperial Oil, said they had determined that onshore was more prudent for their proposed WCC LNG project.

A “range of factors” were considered when making its decision, including its economics, ExxonMobil’s experience with similar LNG projects, First Nations input and the ability to meet environmental and regulatory requirements, wrote WCC LNG regulatory manager Mike Bilger in the letter.
