An onshore exploration well has spudded month in New Zealand's Taranaki basin on a prospect analagous to the country's largest gas field Pohokura.
The nearshore Pohokura field currently provides about one third of New Zealand’s total gas production. The Kohatukai exploration well in Block PEP 55768 is targeting gas and condensate, and will test dual objectives in sands that that are producing at the Pohokura, Turangi and Mangahewa fields.
