According to project partner Noble Energy, a rig is currently on location and has started development drilling work on both Dumbarton and the new Lochranza satellite scheme.
The rig will drill eight production wells and two water injectors in total on the two fields, targeting first oil next year.
Production from the two fields is forecast to peak at about 50,000 barrels per day in 2010.
