Myanmar is on the threshold of political change with Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) seemingly set for a sweeping majority once the votes from the 8 November general elections are fully tallied.
Early indications are that the NLD has made a very strong showing. Htay Oo, leader of the incumbent Union Solidarity & Development party and close ally of President Thein Sein, conceded defeat on 9 November.
