EOG is not the only Eagle Ford pioneer that is now poking around the Austin Chalk in the US.
The company is joined in the acreage hunt by privately held GeoSouthern Resources, which was also an early mover in the Eagle Ford play before eventually selling its position there to Devon Energy for $6 billion in 2013.
Geosouthern has taken hundreds of leases primarily in Fayette County and continuing along the geologic trend to the north-east into Washington County.
