Australian pair Comet Ridge and Vintage Energy are encouraged by gas shows seen at the Albany-2 well in the frontier Galilee basin onshore Queensland.
The well is still drilling but 62 metres of core has been taken, predominantely sandstone, and with good gas shows, the companies said.
They intend to complete the well, then move the Ensign Rig 932 seven kilometres to the Albany-1 well location where a sidetrack of that well will be done.
