The Palawan Regional Trial Court ruled that the province should receive 40% of these profits from the producing field, declaring that Malampaya, off Palawan's north-west coast, falls within its territorial jurisdiction.
The ruling added that Palawan's share should be backdated to 16 October 2001, just after the field came on stream.
The decision is better than Palawan Governor Joel Reyes, who brought the legal action, had hoped for.
