Houston-based Anadarko Petroleum has drilled a successful appraisal well on its deep-water Paon oil discovery off Ivory Coast, boosting the possibility that it has a commercial project on its hands.
The US independent said the horizontal Paon-5A probe, drilled by Fred Olsen drillship Bolette Dolphin, hit almost 100 net feet of vertical pay.
Paon-5A was the first horizontal well that Anadarko has drilled in deep waters, while a second is now being drilled in a re-entry of the previous Paon-3AR appraisal well.
