The contract for the P-61 tension-leg wellhead platform was awarded to Floatec after a re-bid and a long negotiation that resulted in a reduction of 5000-tonne in topsides payload. A decision to use a tension assist rig was the key to this, shifting drilling to operational expenditure rather than capital expenditure. The four-year tender assist drilling contract was won by Bassdrill.
