The pilot hole, to be drilled in February by Diamond Offshore’s semi-submersible Ocean Vanguard, lies in 115 metres of water about 36 kilometres south of the Grane field and 56 kilometres north-east of the Sleipner field.
The operation will assess the risk of shallow gas beneath the intended location of the field centre.
