The well, being drilled by the Fred Olsen semi-submersible rig Bulford Dolphin on the Balabri discovery, hit gas in a deeper zone than those previously probed, but testing could not be carried out because pressures were more than 8000 pounds per square inch.
Equator said the shallower gas horizons already intercepted could hold in-place reserves of about 900 billion cubic feet, with the deeper zone potentially holding a further 100 Bcf.
