The Caxa-1 well — one of six planned for this year in Mexico’s deep-water sector — will be drilled in 1800 metres of water.
Pemex is using the Industrial Perforadora de Campeche’ semi-submersible Bicentario rig to drill the well.
The new well is one of the most important in Pemex’s Southern Gulf of Mexico, Phase 1 project.
According to documents filed with the Mexican regulator, the National Hydrocarbons Commission, the Southern Gulf of Mexico (Phase 1) project area covers over 49,000 square kilometres in Mexico’s exclusive economic zone off the Mexican states Tamaulipas and Veracruz.
