Mexican state oil company Pemex is intending to tackle a wide range of geological targets for shallow-water and onshore exploration under the new administration of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

The company will aim to focus its efforts in shallow waters on Cretaceous and Jurassic plays and, in the areas of Tabasco and Veracruz, the Tertiary will also be a focus, said Francisco Javier Flamenco Lopez, subdirector of Pemex’s specialised technical production unit, during a plenary session at the Mexico Petroleum Congress in Leon, Guanajuato.
