Pemex confirmed late last year that it was looking into the possibility of adding a $6 billion liquefaction unit to its existing Energia Costa Azul liquefied natural gas import project in Ensenada.

“This is an important first step in working with Pemex on the development of liquefaction facilities at Energia Costa Azul,” said Sempra Energy president Mark Snell.

Energia Costa Azul opened in 2008, among the first west coast terminals of its kind, and has capacity to regasify up to 1 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas.
