Pertamina is drilling a relief well as part of the Indonesian state-owned company’s moves to shut down the YYA-1 well on its domestic Offshore North West Java asset, from where oil has been leaking since a gas kick last month, writes Amanda Battersby.

The YYA-1 RW well, which has a prognosed total depth of 2765 metres, is intended for the injection of heavy mud and cement so that the offending well can be permanently closed.
