Indonesia’s national oil and gas company Pertamina has so far failed to stop oil leaking from a well on its Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) asset following a gas kick last month.

Subsidiary Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) now believes it could be the second week of October before the offending YYA-1 well just two kilometres off the coast of Java is shut in.

PHE incident commander Taufik Aditiyawarman blamed technical issues in drilling the relief well for the delay in shutting in and sealing the YYA-1well.
