A total of 18 exploration wells were drilled in Peru last year, compared with only eight in 2010.
Fifteen wells were completed by December and operations were still ongoing at three more wells, including the Situche Norte-4X probe, being drilled by Canadian producer Talisman Energy at Block 64.
Another five appraisal wells and 224 development wells were drilled in Peru in 2011, a tiny increase when compared with the three appraisal wells and 222 development wells drilled in the previous year.
