Petrobras declaration in pre-salt

Brazil’s Petrobras has declared commerciality on the first of its major pre-salt fields, confirming that the Tupi and Iracema accumulations — renamed Lula and Cernambi, respectively — together hold recoverable reserves of at least 8.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent, writes Gareth Chetwynd.

Petrobras made a formal declaration to Brazil’s hydrocarbons regulatory body ANP after drilling a total 11 wells on Tupi and Iracema, both of which are located in ultra-deep waters on Block BM-S-11 in the Santos basin.

Petrobras carried out an extended well test on Tupi with the floating production, storage and offloading unit BW Cidade de Sao Vicente and recently started up the first full-scale pilot production system on the same field, using Modec’s FPSO Cidade Angra dos Reis.
