Brazilian state-controlled oil company Petrobras has approached a quartet of Chinese shipyards as it strives to potentially improve the competitive landscape for its upcoming tenders for floating production, storage and offloading vessels.

Sources told Upstream that Petrobras officials were recently in China to visit facilities operated by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, CIMC Raffles and China Merchant Heavy Industry to float the idea of having these companies participating in future FPSO tenders, likely starting with the unit for the Itapu pre-salt field.
