The discovery well, which was drilled to a total depth of 3724 metres, encountered five oil-bearing sand horizons. Testing on one of these zones yielded 4700 barrels per day of crude. The discovery is under evaluation and further exploration activity including new seismic data acquisition and appraisal drilling is planned. Due to its close proximity to the Samarang oilfields' facilities, the operator is targeting the early commencement of development and production from the new field, parent company Petronas said.
Petronas celebrates in Sabah
MALAYSIA'S national upstream company Petronas Carigali is preparing to fast-track development of its Alab oil prospect off Sabah, eastern Malaysia, writes Amanda Battersby. Alab, which is located on the 100%-owned Samarang-Asam Paya production sharing contract, lies near to existing infrastructure.
