The one-month extension was granted so that the two bidders can accommodate a design change that could see the vessel’s size increase, said sources.

The extension covers a proposal to add an extra topsides module to the FLNG vessel — a decision that may potentially increase the hull size by about 10%.

Petronas is understood to have recently reached a decision to cater for an additional monoethylene glycol (MEG) module, estimated to weigh about 4000 tonnes, on board Petronas FLNG-2, its second such project in Malaysian waters.
