Australian partner Roc Oil said the main hole of the Banda North West-1 appraisal well reached a total depth of 2703 metres below the rotary table earlier this month and has now been plugged back, allowing a sidetrack to be drilled from about 1078 metres.
The Banda ST-1 probe is heading for a target depth of 2284 metres.
Roc said results from Banda NW-1 indicated the well had penetrated a gas column, which the sidetrack will further evaluate "in a more favourable structural position".
