Malaysian national oil company Petronas is preparing to develop a deep-water oil discovery off Sabah that it recently became operator of as a tie-back to its proposed Limbayong project, writes Russell Searancke.

The state-owned giant’s subsidiary Petronas Carigali recently replaced JX Nippon as the operator of the Bestari oil discovery in deep-water exploration permit Block R.

It is not clear why there was a change of operatorship.
