As slaps in the face go, it’s pretty harsh. This year’s winner of the BP Portrait Young Artist award turned up to accept his cheque from chief executive Bob Dudley before promptly donating a portion of it to Greenpeace in protest at BP’s offshore exploration plans.
New Zealander Henry Christian-Slane bagged first place and £7000 ($9240) in the 18 to 30-year-olds category with his entry “Gabi”, a portrait of his partner Gabi Lardies.
