Global Industries also has the bigger Hercules as the main weapon in its reeling armoury.
A modular removeable reeling system for pipe up to 18-inch was added to this mainstream pipelay vessel in 2001.
This reel has the impressive capacity of 6800 tonnes of pipe, because, unlike most other reel-lay vessels, it spins in a horizontal plane and so can run on circular tracks rather than all its weight concentrating on a single central bearing.
