Inpex this week earned praise after it shipped the first cargo of Ichthys liquefied natural gas and, despite difficulties during the project execution, it is a thoroughly deserved pat on the back for the Japanese independent.
Ichthys was a huge undertaking for the first-time operator - and a complicated one.
Inpex never intended to be the operator.
It was the original permit holder when the acreage was awarded 20 years ago but a farm-in partner did not materialise.
